Copa America
Argentina defeated Mexico 3-0 last night to advance to the final where they will face Brazil.
Argentina broke through in the dying moments of the first half when Gabriel Heinze touched in Juan Roman Riquelme’s perfect free kick. Then Lionel Messi delivered a beauty of a goal when he somehow chipped Oswaldo Sanchez, who really didn’t seem all that far off his line.
Mexico shouldn’t hang their heads over this game. They played well throughout the tournament, and they were unlucky not to score against Argentina as Andres Guardado and Nery Castillo both hit the woodwork. This should take some of the sting out of their loss to the US in the Gold Cup final.
Finally, this Argentine team is an absolute buzz saw. They have both the immense talent, and they desperately want to win their first international title since 1993. Argentina lost to Brazil in the 2005 Copa America final, but this time, I don’t see the Albicelestes losing this one.
